Lars Mikkelsen3-765x1024At the age of 27, he entered the National Theatre School of Denmark where he graduated in 1995. Apart from his role in the drama show telecast internationally under the name The Killing, he subsequently participated in two other critically well-known Danish dramas: Those Who Kill and Borgen III. He also played a major character in the BBC drama Sherlock in which he played the blackmailer Charles Augustus Magnussen. In the American TV show House of Cards, he was the role of the president of Russia. In 2018, he won an International Emmy Award for his character as the president of Russia on the Danish television drama Herrens Veje. It was broadcast in the UK in 2019. According to Mikkelsen, he was taught English from his brother by listening to Monty Python recordings and watching the sketches of comedy.
